BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – In what probably has to be the closest finish for a Coldwater High School golf team. the Lady Cardinals ended up in a tie with Marshall going into the Interstate 8 Conference Championship with each team winning two jamborees this season, and then to top it off, they tied at the Conference Championship Thursday at the Bedford Valley Golf Course with each team shooting identical team scores of 373. T
o break the tie, you go to the fifth person’s score and Coldwater’s Elloree Madden’s 100 was better than Marshall’s fifth score by 14 strokes thus giving the Lady Cardinals their first Conference Championship since 2004.
Coldwater was led by Jayla Goodwin with an 87, Claire Sheppard carded a 94, Taylor Musselman had a 95, Molly Smith shot a 97, Madden’s 100 and Kelly Warner rounded out Coldwater’s scoring with a 103.
Warner, Sheppard, Goodwin and Smith were all named Honorable Mention All-Conference for their performances this season. Jayla Goddwin was named to the All Tournament Team by finishing in the top five.
Coldwater will host the MHSAA Region 9 Regional at the Coldwater Golf Course Thursday, October 11.
