STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – In high school cross country, Coldwater won the girls meet at the Sturgis Kiwanis Invitational Saturday. According to results posted at www.athletic.net, the Cardinals had 47 points, Harper Creek was second with 53 followed by Sturgis with 77. Quincy finished fifth.
Coldwater’s Elka Machan won the silver medal with a second place finish. Kathy Potter was third and took the bronze. Legend Szafranski, Carolyn Potter, Cece DeWitt, Carlee Crabtree and Ezma Machan all won supporting medals for Coldwater.
Bronson did not have enough runners for a team score in the girls meet but the Vikings Xochitl Garcia was fourth. Grace Welch finished 29th. Madelyn Allman was the top Quincy finisher as she was 10th. Harmony Harpster was 12th and Avery Rufenacht was 28th.
In the boys race, Coldwater, Quincy and Bronson finished fourth, fifth and sixth in the overall standings at the Sturgis Kiwanis Invitational.
There were seven medal winners from Branch County. Three were from Coldwater as Kyle Foulk was fourth, John Aerts was 26th and Josh Blankenship was 29th. Luis Ortiz of Bronson finished 12th. Quincy also had three medal winners as Erik Butchart was 15th, Joshua Pepper was 27th and Ian Trall was 30th.
