COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Strong winds with gusts up to 43 miles an hour knocked down trees and power lines throughout Branch County early Saturday afternoon, which caused the power to go out for nearly 900 Consumers Energy customers.
For those who had settled in to watch the Michigan-Michigan State game, it marked the second straight year there were power outages in Branch County during the annual showdown.
The bad weather was part of a cold front that roared through Branch County during the 1:00 p.m. hour.
The Quincy Fire Department reported primary power lines and a tree was knocked down at Ray-Quincy and Lukesport Roads.
National Weather Service spotters reported quarter inch hail near Kinderhook and a 56 MPH wind gust near Three Rivers. There were also reports of three-quarter inch hail west of Three Rivers and south of Clear Lake in St. Joseph County.
The power outage, along with the downed trees and power lines, forced Lockwood Community Church south of Coldwater to cancel their Sunday services and Sunday school.
