UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – No injuries were reported after a fire broke out in a two story home that was across the street from the Union City Fire Department Saturday night,
The blaze at 128 Hammond Street broke out at about 8:00 p.m..
The Village of Union City reported on its Facebook page that all of the occupants got out safely.
Union City firefighters got assistance from the Burlington, Athens and Tekonsha Fire Departments.
Further information on the cause and the amount of damage was not immediately available.
Union City residents are coming to the aid of the fire victims. Village Manager Chris Mathis says their number one need right now is for housing in Union City. They were given enough clothes from Red Cross to get them by and have nowhere to store donated items at present.
Mathis is requesting that people post any knowledge of at least two bedroom places for rent in Union City on the village’s Facebook page so they can access the information. In addition, Mathis is suggesting that those who would like to donate to the family drop off gift cards so they can purchase what they need, as they need it.
The village office is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.. There is a drop box slot where gift cards can be left after hours.
