COLDWATER,MI (WTVB)- The Coldwater Community Schools Board of Education approved the design and development budgets for the new fourth and fifth grade building on Western Avenue, as well as for next summer’s projects at Legg Middle School on Monday night. The action came after Project Manager Tom Stanek from Owen-Ames-Kimball Company of Grand Rapids said the projects were under budget.
He said the fourth and fifth grade building was presently $43,000 under budget and they were looking at a ground breaking in the spring once the design and construction documents are finished by Tower Pinkster sometime in December. It will be built at the former location of the Coldwater Little League diamonds.
Stanek added the work planned for Legg Middle School starting in June 2019 was $247,000 under budget. Plans call for the replacement of HVAC ventilators in the seventh and eighth grade portion of the building.
While they are now in a good position, Stanek said they were nervous about all of the tariffs being imposed and the oscillation of material prices.
The board also approved the signing of an agreement with architects from Tower Pinkster for technology design services on the new school building, which is scheduled to open in a couple of years.
Tower Pinkster is serving as the architect for the project while Owen-Ames-Kimball Company is serving as the construction manager.
The new fourth and fifth grade building will replace Lakeland Elementary in a couple of years and it’s being built following the close approval of a nearly $30 million millage and bonding issue last November by district voters.
The district will also use the funds from the millage for infrastructure needs in the district and for the purchase of new buses.
