COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Hillsdale County man who was found guilty by a Branch County Circuit Court jury September 12 of assault with a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest was given concurrent nine month jail sentences Monday and was placed on probation for 18 months.
22-year old Tyler Lovell of Pittsford was convicted last month following a two day trial. He was one of two suspects charged in connection with a fight involving several intoxicated persons during the early morning hours of March 18, 2018 on Walnut Street near Pearl Street. Two persons had to go to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital following the fight.
Judge Bill O’Grady suspended all jail time over five months and credited Lovell with 16 days already served.
Lovell will have to pay restitution to the two injured persons once the amount is confirmed.
The co-defendant in the case, 21-year old Kyle Macey of Jonesville, entered a guilty plea to a charge of aggravated assault. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dismissed a charge of assault with a weapon.
Macey was given a one year jail sentence and placed on 18 months of probation. He also had to testify against Lovell under terms of the plea agreement.
Macey and Lovell were arrested by Coldwater Police following the brawl.
