COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners formally approved a request Tuesday to have the top five rated qualified architects submit proposals for the design of a new Branch County Jail.
Six proposals were submitted after the county sent out Requests for Qualifications.
The top five were Byce and Associates, BKV Group, Tower Pinkster, Hooker DeJong and Elevatus. County Administrator Bud Norman said the firm which was rated sixth was qualified but did not attend a required meeting.
Commissioner Leonard Kolcz asked Norman to have the Commissioners review the request for proposals before they are sent out and to get input from Sheriff John Pollack.
Norman said they will bring the RFP to Commissioners
Meanwhile, Pollack told Commissioners they had 32 female inmates in the jail late last week so 11 had to be sent to Lenawee County. The jail has a maximum female capacity of 17 but Pollack said they have had as many as 22.
