LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Court of Appeals has denied an appeal filed by a Union City man who was sentenced to between 19 and 40 years in prison in June 2017 after he was convicted by a Branch County Circuit Court jury of five second degree criminal sexual conduct charges.
40-year-old Jamie Lynn Coyle claimed in his appeal that he was denied due process of law because the trial court did not advise him of his right to testify, depriving him of the opportunity to make a voluntary, informed decision.
But the Court of Appeals in their ruling that was issued late last week disagreed with that and upheld the sentence.
Coyle was convicted in connection with sexual incidents involving a young teenage girl in 2016.
The jury acquitted him of two first degree CSC counts.
