COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch Area Lions Club has launched a new project called “Lights of Love”.
Details of the fundraising effort were presented last week at a meeting of the Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary Club. Terri Huffman, who is the first president of the club which was chartered in April of this year, was the guest speaker at the Thursday morning session of Sunrise Rotary. Huffman said the local Lions Club is the first in Michigan to be a specialty club for diabetes to promote awareness of the disease, prevention, treatment, and research.
The “Lights of Love” will illuminate Christmas trees which the club is selling sponsorships for with each tree costing $100. All proceeds will be directed to the local Lions Club and be used to assist those in the county with the purchase of vision & hearing aids as well as funding diabetes education and prevention. The honoree or business that sponsors a tree gets their name on it and gets to decorate it.
The tree lights will be turned on in a special ceremony December 1st with the trees located at the southwest corner of the four-corners in downtown Coldwater. The names of the tree sponsors will be read during the ceremony by Coldwater Mayor Tom Kramer with the trees on display through December 25.
