JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – Quincy’s girls along with five other Branch County runners all qualified for the Michigan High School Athletic Association Cross Country State Finals during regional competition Saturday.
In the Division 2 Regional meet at Portage, Coldwater’s boys finished 11th while the Cardinal girls were fifth. The top three teams and top 15 individuals advance to the State Finals at MIS. Kyle Foulk was 20th while Josh Blankenship was 50th and John Aerts was 57th in the boys race.
Coldwater’s Elka Machan and Kathy Potter qualified for the Girls State Finals. Machan was second with a time of 18:52.5 while Potter was fifth with a time of 19:27.1.
The Division Three Cross Country Regionals were held at Ella Sharp in Jackson. Quincy qualified as a team for the Girls State Finals with a third place finish. Two Bronson runners qualified for the State Finals as Xochitl Garcia was second with a time of 19:27.4 and Abby Ware was 13th. Quincy had three runners in the top 17. Harmony Harpster was eighth, Madelyn Allman was tenth and Avery Rufenacht was 17th.
In the Boys Division Three Regionals, Quincy finished sixth, Bronson was eighth and Union City was 13th. Bronson’s Luis Ortiz qualified for the Boys State Finals with a 12th place finish. Quincy’s top finisher was Ian Trall who was 18th. Union City’s Owen Needham was 45th.
