BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Voters in the Bronson, Quincy and Union City School Districts will be deciding contested school board races on Tuesday.
The four Bronson School Board candidates vying for two positions are Deborah Balowski, Jon R. Britten, Brenda Kelley and Dennis L. Sikorski. Balowski and Sikorksi are the incumbents.
Bronson School District voters will also be asked to approve a five year millage not to exceed two mills which would be used to create a sinking fund. The ballot language says the money from the sinking fund would be used for the construction or repair of school buildings as well as for school security improvements and for the acquisition or upgrading of technology.
If the millage is approved, nearly $400,000 would be collected in 2019.
The ballot issues follow last month’s Bronson Board of Education meeting where a large group of parents brought up a number of concerns about how the district was operating.
Six candidates are vying for four positions on the Quincy Board of Education. Alan McClellan, James Paxton and Greg Richer are running for two regular term seats on the board. Tim Miner and Chantel Cochrane Paxton are running for a partial term position which runs through 2022 while Brian Preston is the only candidate for a partial term position which goes through 2020.
Richer, McClellan, Miner and Preston currently serve on the board.
Meanwhile, Charles Feltner, Archie B. Mears and Kyle Miller are running for two seats on the Union City School Board.
There are no challengers to Coldwater Board of Education members Jeffrey S. Holbrook, Ronald Lanford and Jean Milnes, who are all on Tuesday’s ballot.
