COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Gretchen Whitmer may be the Governor-elect of the State of Michigan but she is not feeling the love from most Branch County residents as she prepares to take office.
Branch County, which is heavily Republican, was carried by her opponent Bill Schuette Tuesday by over 4,000 votes, 9,382 to 5,325, thanks to part to a 47 percent turnout of registered voters.
Reaction to her victory on our Facebook page ranged from disappointment to bitterness to outright anger.
Among the negative postings were “the state is going down hill again” and “what a joke”. A couple of postings called Whitmer “Granholm Junior”.
But there were others who expressed tolerance.
One said “I hope she does a good job. I will give her the benefit of doubt” and another said, “I may not like it but as a Christian I pray for her.”
Whitmer will become the new Governor of Michigan January 1, 2019.
