COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An effort to have a Branch County ordinance on the books that would cover industrial wind turbines has taken a first step.
County Administrator Bud Norman said during Thursday’s Board of Commissioners work session it will go before the county’s planning council.
A request to put together the county wide ordinance was made last month by Union Township resident Marilyn Johnson.
She asked commissioners if they had gotten a master plan from DTE Energy about their plans for wind turbines. Commission Chair Ted Gordon said they had not.
Johnson also felt there should be an independent study to see if there is enough wind in Branch County.
Right now, township boards make the decisions on zoning ordinances to govern the impact of wind turbines.
