QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – While Michigan voters approved Proposal One which legalizes recreational marijuana by nearly a half million votes on Election Day, Quincy Village Manager Eric Zuzga is recommending the adoption of a moratorium on recreational marijuana licenses until a discussion can be held on the subject.
Zuzga says in his report for Tuesday’s Quincy Village Council meeting that the moratorium will give the Council time to consider the options and prevent anyone from using the newly passed statute to open an operation.
Branch County voters turned down Proposal One by about 800 votes. The final Branch County tally was 7,950 no to 7,154 yes.
In addition, Zuzga says they have postponed the issuance of any medical marijuana provisioning center licenses until they can fix an issue in the ordinance.
He says the current ordinance provides a first come, first serve structure. According to Zuzga, with five to six people vying for the license the staff felt that they could not put this structure in place without having any issues.
A hearing will be held in December to fix the issue and a new policy will be presented at the same time.
