BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – A large contingent parents, students, and other supporters were on hand Saturday at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek for the game, but another large crowd showed up Saturday afternoon at Bronson High School to welcome back this year’s Michigan High School Athletic Association Division Three state championship winning girls volleyball team.
Bronson captured their fourth straight state championship and fifth in the last nine years as they defeated Unionville-Sebewaing 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-23) Saturday in the MHSAA Division Three girls volleyball state finals. The Lady Vikings join Portage Northern, Marysville, and Battle Creek St. Phillip as the only schools to win four stratight championships in girls volleyball.
Keona Salesman had 19 kills Saturday for the Vikings, while Jolie Smoker had 13 kills in the championship match.
Meagan Lasky recorded 35 assists and 11 digs. Kiera Lasky recorded 14 digs.
Bronson finished their championship season with a record of 58-6.
Another area team brought home a state volleyball title Saturday. Mendon won the Division Four championship as they defeated number one ranked Leland 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-14)
