COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – One of the suspects involved in a home invasion on Burlew Road last March which led to a home occupant firing a gun at the intruders was ordered to serve between two-and-a-half and five years in the Michigan Department of Corrections on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
20-year Branden Swander of Sandusky, Ohio earlier entered a guilty plea to a charge of attempted second degree home invasion.
A charge of second degree conspiracy to commit home invasion as well as a sentence enhancement for being a second time habitual offender were dismissed by prosecutors in exchange for the plea.
The plea agreement also calls for no additional home invasion charges to be filed against Swander by prosecutors in connection with previous home invasions at the same address. Swander must also testify against two co-defendants.
Swander will have to pay $1,875 in restitution to the victims in the case. He was given credit for 165 days already served in jail.
