COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Too many female inmates at the Branch County Jail led to the transfer of nine of the inmates to the Lenawee County Jail over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
The female population had reached 28 before the latest transfers brought the number down to 19.
Undersheriff Keith Eichler says the latest transfers brought the number of Branch County female inmates in the Lenawee County facility up to 15.
As of midnight last night, there were 116 inmates in the Branch County Jail. Of that total, there were 98 males and 18 females.
The jail has a rated capacity of 142. The capacity level for the female section is 22 inmates.
