PORTAGE, MI (WTVB) – The boys high school basketball season starts tonight in Michigan which is a departure from past years when the girls basketball season started a week ahead of the boys.
The change was made for this winter to accommodate availability of Michigan State University’s Breslin Student Events Center for the possibility of a NCAA Women’s Tournament game. The Breslin Center which will host the Boys Basketball Finals on March 16th.
The first girls basketball games will be played next week. The Girls Basketball Finals on March 23rd at Calvin College’s Van Noord Arena will close the winter season.
Coldwater’s boys basketball team will open their season at Portage Central Tuesday night. Coverage here on AM1590 and FM 95.5 WTVB as well as on line at www.wtvbam.com starts at 7:00 p.m..
Also tonight in Branch County boys basketball, Bronson will host Battle Creek St. Phillip and Union City will host Colon. Quincy opens their season Wednesday night at home against Marshall Academy.
