COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Three farmland rental agreements for the 2019 crop year were introduced by the Coldwater City Council Monday night.
The three year lease agreements cover the Bailey Farm, the Treat Farm, and the Cangialosi Farm.
Mark Barone and Kathy Dutcher-Barone have farmed several parcels of city owned land for years.
City Attorney Megan Angel said the 69 acre Bailey Farm was the largest parcel.
The rent for the Bailey Farm would be $155 per acre in 2019, $160 per acre in 2020 and $165 per acre in 2021.
The agreement for the Cangialosi Farm calls for an increase of $25 per acre over the prior lease while the agreement for the Treat Farm remains the same.
Angel pointed out the agreements have a provision that allows the city to take back the land if they need it for municipal purposes or industrial development. In turn, those leasing the land would get a rebate.
The agreements will be eligible for final adoption during the Council’s meeting January 14, 2019.
