COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Local authorities say the bomb threat emails sent around the country yesterday also reached West Michigan.
According the Branch County 911 Central Dispatch Log, one of the threats was received by the main branch of Southern Michigan Bank and Trust in Coldwater. Coldwater Police were called at about 2:10 p.m. but like all the others, it was a hoax.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office and the Battle Creek Police Department both say they received reports of the threat being received in their areas, and Grand Rapids police responded yesterday to several threats.
The emails sent out yesterday reportedly originated in Russia. It claimed that the sender would detonate a bomb in the recipient’s building if the recipient did not pay the sender money or bitcoin.
Authorities determined there was no credible threat behind any of the emails and that the sender was trying to solicit money.
