COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Kinderhook Township man was formally charged in Branch County District Court Thursday after he allegedly threw a hammer and injured a woman during a violent incident at his home on East Copeland Road.
45-year-old Richard Michael Stolte is facing charges of felonious assault and throwing an object at a vehicle. He is free after posting a $10,000 bond pending a probable cause hearing December 27, 2018. A preliminary exam was scheduled for January 2, 2019.
Michigan State Police investigated the incident which was reported at around midnight Wednesday night. Court records indicate the alleged victim started an argument with Stolte. She then rammed her vehicle into his as the argument continued.
Stolte then allegedly threw a hammer through a door and struck the woman in the face. He told Troopers he was not trying to hit the woman who had to be taken to Cameron Hospital in Angola before being transferred to Parkview Regional Medical Center for treatment of a broken jaw and eye socket.
As part of posting bond, Stolte was told to have no contact with the alleged victim.
