COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners met with representatives of the Carmi Design Group of Edwardsburg during their work session Thursday, in an attempt to find a permanent solution to the ongoing problems with the heating, ventilation and air conditioning at the Burnside Senior Center in Coldwater.
A new HVAC system was installed by Carrier as part of a major renovation to the facility which was completed in March 2017, but officials say it has not functioned properly. At one point, there was such a strong pressure imbalance that the membrane of the flat roof was damaged after it inflated.
The Commission on Aging and the county commissioners have tried to get the problem fixed for almost a year-and-a-half.
Carmi consultant Brad White said they will need a full day in the spring when the weather warms up in order to monitor the equipment and make sure it works properly.
Carmi owner Tony Leininger said they have every desire to wrap this project up.
There were no representatives from Carrier present which angered Commissioner Don Vrablic who said the county were the victims and it was not Executive Director Amy Duff’s job to climb ladders outside in order to access the control panels when they stop working.
The warranty was originally scheduled to run out in March 2018, but it was extended for a year.
