COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School wrestling team went 4-1 and finished second in their Coldwater Classic team dual meet on Saturday at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
The Cardinals won four matches in their pool as they defeated Kalamazoo Central (42-33), Jackson B (84-0), Bronson (57-24) and Chelsea (38-33) before losing to Mattawan (47-29) in the tournament finals. Coldwater’s record is now 11-3.
Bronson went 2-3 with wins over Jackson (78-6) and Marshall (47-35). Ben Modert (119), Issac Tappenden (152), Ruger Ranney (160) won all five of their matches for the Vikings.
Wrestling shorthanded due to injuries, Union City still managed to finish third out of 16 teams on Saturday at the 46th annual Burton Richards Memorial Tournament in Eau Claire.
The Chargers only had seven wrestlers competing but four of them won championships. They were Brayton Mears (103), Bradley Russell (119), Everett Korn (145) and Brayton Burgett (285). Korn won his second straight title at the Eau Claire tournament as he scored a take down in sudden death to snap a 0-0 tie.
