Colon Earl passed away on January 5
th
, 2019 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday January 10th, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home of Coldwater. Visitation will be Wednesday January 9th, 2019 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home.
Colon was born on July 28, 1934 in Litchfield, Mich. to Colon and Viola Earl. He entered the Army in 1953 then went to Korea to work on radar systems. After discharge he married the love of his life Joann Sortwell in 1955 and bought a house at 108 Harvey St. They made it a home for life. In 1958 Colon went to work at the Chrysler Missile plant in Detroit for two years, working on the Redstone and Jupiter programs. In 1960 he owned and operated Colon’s TV Service for 12 years. He then moved on to Crotty Corporation for 28 years where he retired.
Colon spent retirement enjoying fishing, hunting the elusive whitetail deer, golfing ( including a hole in one at Bronson Golf Course ), playing the organ, and spending time with his wife. In 2006 he was honored as “senior citizen” of the year by the Noon Exchange Club. His favorite hobby was woodworking in his own shop out in the garage. He even taught woodworking to the ladies at the Burnside Senior Center on Monday’s.
Colon is survived by his Brother Donald & Nancy Earl and family from Franklin, TN, son Kevin & Linda Earl and family from Ann Arbor, Mich., sister-in-law Louise Sortwell and family from Chicago, Ill, three grandsons, five great-grandsons, two granddaughters, two great-granddaughters, one step-grandson, two step great-grandsons, two step great-great grandsons, one step granddaughter, two step great-granddaughters, two step great-great granddaughters, and two ex-daughters-in-law (Lori Kling & Christine Cekander).
Colon was preceded in death by his parents Colon and Viola Earl, his wife Joann, daughter Colleen, son Kary, and his mother-in-law Josephine L. Cziaka.
