COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The owners of the building at 22 West Chicago in downtown Coldwater got approval on Wednesday night from the city’s Historic District Commission to replace a rear window and board up others after asbestos was found in the caulking.
City Planner Dean Walrack said this would be temporary.
He said plans eventually call for the original windows to be re-produced.
Bill and Cheryl Flickinger are planning to turn the former Smit-T’s store into a restaurant or pub.
Historic preservation architect Randy Case of Battle Creek has been recruited by the owners to help out.
The Italianate style building was constructed in 1894. It is located near the corner of North Monroe Street, next door to the Coldwater Executive Suites.
