PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Gavin Liggett scored only one basket on Friday night but it was a big one. His rebound bucket with less than a second to play gave the Pennfield Panthers a 45-43 victory over the Coldwater Cardinals as the Cardinals were handed their first Interstate 8 loss of the season. Coldwater drops to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the Interstate 8 which left them a half game back of Parma Western for first place in the conference. Dylan Targgart led the Cardinals with 20 points while Gage McGuire grabbed 13 rebounds and Ethan Crabtree dished out three assists.
Larson Kever scored 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the Union City Chargers won their fourth straight game with a 68-48 victory over the Bronson Vikings at McNett Fieldhouse. After Bronson grabbed a 16-13 first quarter lead, the Chargers took over with a 19-7 second quarter which gave them a 32-23 lead at the half. Union City built their lead to 52-35 after three quarters and went on to the victory as they improved to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the Big Eight Conference. Hudson Wotta led the Vikings with 21 points. Bronson drops to 1-9 overall and 1-4 in the Big 8.
