COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – No matter how you cut it, some very nasty weather will be moving in for the weekend. It is not expected to be a winter storm that will shut everything down for a couple of days but getting around especially on Saturday will be challenging.
Branch, Hillsdale, Saint Joseph and Steuben Counties are under a Winter Storm Watch for a 24 hour period starting at 10:00 p.m. Friday night.
The National Weather Service says heavy snow is possible along with gusty winds and significant blowing and drifting snow.
The total snow accumulation is expected to be four to seven inches with locally higher amounts possible in portions of northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.
Snow is expected to overspread the area late this evening and continue into Saturday afternoon. Moderate to heavy snow, combined with gusty northeast winds to 25 to 35 mph on Saturday into Saturday evening will create hazardous travel conditions.
Meanwhile, Calhoun and Kalamazoo Counties are included in a Winter Weather Advisory. Forecasters say one to three inches of snow is expected along the I-96 corridor with three to five inches expected along the I-94 corridor. Drivers can expect slippery road conditions.
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
