COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – While modifying the time window, the National Weather Service has upgraded this weekend’s snow event from a Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Storm Warning for Branch County, including the southern tier of counties in Michigan and northern tier in Indiana.
The Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from 9:00 p.m. Friday until 2:00 p.m. Saturday. The NWS says moderate to heavy snow is expected, along with gusty northeast winds and significant blowing and drifting snow. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches expected, with locally higher amounts possible.
Forecasters say snow will overspread the area later this evening and continue into early Saturday afternoon before tapering late Saturday afternoon. Moderate to heavy snow, combined with gusty northeast winds to 30 mph Saturday and early Saturday evening will create hazardous travel conditions due to blowing and drifting and reduced visibilities.
The heaviest snow is expected from late this evening through mid morning Saturday.
The original Winter Storm Watch was from 10:00 p.m. Friday until 10:00 p.m. Saturday.
Much of the rest of lower Michigan is under a Winter Weather Advisory through Saturday afternoon.
