COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – For a second straight day, schools across Branch County are closed because of icy roads.
Freezing rain Tuesday night and Wednesday morning made driving treacherous on most roads Wednesday morning, causing the school closings. The carry over of those icy conditions on back roads led to the cancellation of classes again Thursday.
Quincy, Union City, and Tekonsha made their decisions Wednesday evening, while officials in Coldwater, Bronson, and the Branch Intermediate School Districts made their decisions early Thursday morning after a check of the roads.
Pansophia Academy, St. Charles Borromeo, and St. Mary’s Assumption School in Bronson also cancelled classes Thursday.
Most schools in Hillsdale County closed Thursday also.
Meantime, Branch, St. Joseph, Hillsdale and Steuben Counties are under a Wind Chill Advisory from 3:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Friday. Very cold wind chills expected. Wind chills as low as 20 below zero expected in portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan and northwest Ohio.
