BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – With temperatures in single digits and wind chills well below zero, the City of Bronson and the Village of Union City have both issued a “Run Water Order” for water customers. The order for Bronson is good through February 4, while Union City officials have requested water be run through February 3, 2019.
The weather forecast calls for an extended cold spell over the next week. Running a small stream of water is intended to help prevent the water service from freezing.
Customers are being asked to run a small stream of water from one water faucet in your home or business approximately a quarter of an inch in diameter which is the size of a pencil.
The bathtub is a good place to do this as it is less likely to be turned off.
The “Run Water Order” is subject to change with the weather forecast.
Union City officials say the additional costs of running your water will be absorbed by the utility and your water usage will be capped at the average of the last three months and will not exceed that usage.
In Bronson, billing adjustments will be made on a case by case basis and will be based on previous water usage history.
For the Village of Quincy, officials said Friday that while a number of communities have issued run water advisories, they have not issued a general order yet, but if your property has had issues in the past, officials suggest that you may want to open a faucet and run it constantly over the next week.
They are keeping a close eye on the weather and if the cold that is anticipated arrives, the village will most likely issue one early next week.
