COLDWATER, MI 9WTVB) – There will be a 32nd annual Strawberry Fest in downtown Coldwater.
After initially suggesting in a memo to the Downtown Development Authority Board that the annual June event be discontinued due in part to staffing concerns which led to a large amount of criticism, Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker said on WTVB Thursday morning that the city now plans to continue Strawberry Fest.
Baker was initially going to present his suggestions to the D.D.A. Board but two board meetings have been called off over the last week due to bad weather.
The city agreed recently to take on the planning and administration of downtown festivals and concerts on an interim basis after the Coldwater Area Chamber of Commerce notified the city they would no longer run the events due to the amount of staff time, effort and expense.
Baker says they are open to ideas about the downtown events.
It was initially thought the vendors and nature of Strawberry Fest and Apple Fest in September were almost exactly the same. Other factors in possibly ending Strawberry Fest were the availability of strawberries, the unpredictable June weather and conflicts with other activities at that time of year.
