LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater High School track coach Jeff Schorfhaar was honored Friday night as the 2018 Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Division Two Coach of the Year.
Schorfhaar received his award during a M.I.T.C.A. clinic in Lansing.
He has been the head boys track coach for seven years. His squad won the M.H.S.A.A. Division Two Lower Peninsula Boys Track championship last spring.
The Cardinals won the title thanks to three first place finishes and a strong showing in the field events.
They set the tone for the meet as Dylan Targgart, Zach Gipple and Cole Targgart took the top three spots in the shot put. Targgart also won the discus title won Shuaib Ajabaly won the 1,600.
Ajabaly is now a freshman at the University of Wisconsin and on Saturday he won the U.S. Junior Men’s National Championship in Tallahassee, Florida with a time of 24:38.7. He will be the top U.S. qualifier for those under the age of 20 at the World Junior Championships in Aarhus, Denmark on March 30th.
