Dee was born
in Chicago, IL on June 16
th
, 1935, to Jules and Vivian Esther (Rose)
Kusel. She was the youngest and only daughter. She graduated and was an active
member of the Coldwater High School Class of 1952. She married Wesley
Overstreet in 1954, in Angola, IN. He was killed in an auto accident in 1957.
Dee married her life partner, Richard H. (Dick) White on February 6, 1960 in
Coldwater, MI.
Dee was an
active and busy woman. She co-owned White Supply Company with Dick for 29
years. She was a member of the Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority, Ladies Golf Association
of Coldwater, Michigan State Alumni Association, and was very active in the
American Cancer Society of Branch County for many years.
Dee was a
true Michigan State University Spartan. Dee and Dick (1954 MSU alumni) were
avid MSU sports fans, holding both football and basketball season tickets for
many years. They were longtime benefactors of the university, with many rooms
named in their honor.
Most of all,
Dee cherished and loved spending time with Dick, their “girls” and later, the
eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was a loving and
generous mother and grandmother, famous for her rendition of the song “Happy
Birthday” that she sang to each member of the family in the early a.m. of their
birthday. Dee had the gift of gab, and never met a stranger.
Dee is
survived by, and will be sadly missed by her daughters Leslee (John) Ziegler,
Susan White (Doug Chapman) all of Coldwater, Linda (Dan) Ohmer of Marshall,
Lauri (Brian) Nelson of Livonia, her grandchildren Brant (Amy) Ziegler, Erik
(Carey King) Ziegler, Stacey (Corey) Donner, Katie Watts, Jennifer (Shamel)
Meadows, Lindsey Ohmer, Cole Nelson, Gabriel Nelson, and her four great
grandchildren Connor Crawford, Claire and Jackson Ziegler and Cameron Donner;
brother, Irwin J. Kusel (Geri) of Batavia, IL, and her beloved King Cavalier
Spaniel, Daisy. Dee is also survived by her many special friends.
She was
preceded in death by her parents, husbands Wesley Overstreet and Richard H.
(Dick) White, and brother, Robert I. Kusel.
Memorials
may be directed to American Cancer Society and the Humane Society. The family would like to request, in Dee’s honor,
for friends to wear MSU apparel to the funeral service.
