COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater City Police say a high speed chase that began on South Willowbrook Road early Sunday ended with the car being pursued crashing head-on into a tree in Branch County, but the suspect got away
According to police, an officer attempted to make a traffic stop for an improper plate when the driver who was alone in his Chevy Camaro took off southbound on Willowbrook. The chase with speeds over 110 mph weaved outside the city on Dorrance and Centennial Roads, back into Coldwater, and then south again into the county before the car crashed into the tree in a field off Fenn Road near Fiske Road.
Police say the driver was a male from Three Rivers who was seen earlier on Sunday morning in the city at the Admiral station on West Chicago Street and then followed by the officer for a short time because of the plate infraction before the pursuit started.
The suspect fled on foot following the crash but police were unable to locate him.
Coldwater Police say they will be seeking warrants in the case against the man, who was driving on a suspended license and was also wanted on out of state charges.
