Epifanio “Ollie” Aleman, 90, of Bronson, passed away on Sunday,
February 10, 2019 at Thurston Woods in Sturgis.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 12, 2019
from 4-8:00 PM, with the Rosary to begin at 7:00PM, at Dutcher Funeral Home in Bronson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 10:30
AM at St. Mary of Assumption Church in Bronson with Rev. Fr. Paul Redmond
officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bronson.
Ollie was born on February 13, 1928 to Felipe and Refugia
(Doria) Aleman in Brownsville, Texas. He married Charlotte Foster on March 13,
1954. She preceded him in death on September 23, 1971. Ollie married Betty
(Losinski) Hyska on May 6, 1972.
Mr. Aleman worked at an Easter Basket Factory in
Brownsville, Texas, before relocating to Albion, MI in 1953, where he worked at
the Corning Glass Factory. In 1954 he moved to Bronson and began working for LA
Darling in 1965, until the factory closed. Ollie then went to work for Ross
Labs in Sturgis, retiring in 1991.
Ollie enjoyed being outdoors as he loved doing yard work and
cleaning his cars. He enjoyed bowling
and sports, most especially baseball and softball. He started playing baseball
at the age of 15. Ollie played semi pro baseball in Brownsville on the Texas
Grocery, A & H Grocery, Brownsville Tigers, Brownsville Cubs and the
Brownsville Rebels Teams. Ollie also played for Bronson Reel, Bronson
Merchants, Quality Springs A League, LA Darling All-Stars & Ross Labs. He
played on several championship teams and was voted MVP in class B for LA
Darling. Ollie was an aggressive third baseman, playing ball until the age of
44.
Ollie is survived by his wife Betty; his children Joe
(Cathy) Aleman of Waterford, Todd Aleman of Orlando, FL, Bradley (Kristy)
Aleman, Robert Aleman all of Bronson; step-children Walter Hyska, Robert (Barbara) Hyska both of Bronson, Mary (Todd)
Feiberkorn of Sturgis, his sister Maria
Sandoval of Houston, TX, 18 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many
nieces and nephews.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by
his brothers Gilberto (Mercedes) Aleman, Jose (Pepa) Aleman, brother-in-law
Poncho Sandoval, step daughter-in-law Rueanne Hyska and granddaughter Gabrielle
Aleman.
Epifanio will be remembered as a happy man who loved to talk
about his baseball memories. He was a great storyteller who loved to tease and
never said an unkind word.
