COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The case of a Union City man who is accused of firing off a sawed off shot gun and using a racial slur during a confrontation with his neighbor late last month has been bound over to Branch County Circuit Court.
30-year-old James Ray Van Wormer waived his Branch County District Court preliminary exam. He is scheduled to appear Circuit Court for a pre-trial conference March 4, 2019.
He is facing felony counts of being in possession of a short barreled shot gun, assault with a dangerous weapon, felony firearm, and ethic intimidation. He is also facing a misdemeanor for reckless use of a firearm.
Union City Police say the incident happened in the 400 block of North Broadway at about midnight January 28, 2019.
Courts documents indicate Van Wormer was intoxicated and allegedly used the N word during the confrontation. His alleged victim was not injured after he managed to wrestle the weapon away from the suspect.
