COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school gymnastics, Angola posted a new school record as they defeated Coldwater 141.3 to 133.3 as the Cardinals closed out their regular season. Coldwater finished their season with a 6-2 record for their dual competitions.
The Senior Night competition opened with a dedication to former gymnast Jillian Crist. Both gymnastics teams collected over 25 bottles of ketchup to be donated to the local food pantry in her honor. The Crist family recognized two Cardinals, Kelani Philipp and Erica Rodgers, for their “Miss ConJilliyality” support of their teammates throughout the season.
The three senior gymnasts, Rodgers, Tisha DeNio, and Claire Sheppard, were given a Cardinal send off at the close of the meet with each young lady sharing advice to their teammates and their future plans.
Angola won all of the events. Top finishers for Coldwater were Leah Goodwin who was fourth in the vault and balance beam and second in floor exercise and Layla Schoch who finished third on the uneven bars. Goodwin was also fourth in the all around while Rodgers was sixth.
Coldwater will travel to Kenowa Hills for the MHSAA Regional tournament March 2.
