ALBION, MI (WTVB) – The Albion City Council has placed City Manager LaTonya Rufus on unpaid administrative leave.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports the action came after an hour-long closed session Tuesday.
She had previously been on paid administrative leave.
The city’s law firm on labor issues recommended the change. No official explanation has been given as to why Rufus is off the job.
The matter is expected to come up during the Council’s next meeting March 4, 2019.
The Enquirer also reports the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department is conducting a separate criminal investigation into financial concerns at City Hall.
Rufus has been the Albion’s city manager since last October. City Finance Director Tom Mead is serving as the interim city manager.
