David was born on
August 27, 1936 to Henry C. and Hilda L. (Young) Frederick in Muncie, Indiana.
The Frederick family moved to Coldwater in August of 1945 where David would
spend the rest of his life. He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1955 and
while in high school he worked at Van Akens Greenhouse and then at Valerie
& Norman Faulkner’s Flower Shop. David also sang with the Cardinal Four
Quartet, the Presbyterian and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church choirs.
After graduation in
1955, he enlisted in the U.S. Army for 4 years. He trained as a dental
assistant in the U. S. Army, was then assigned to a base in Ulm, Germany. He
served for 2 years as an assistant to a Captain who was an oral surgeon. While
stationed in Germany, David made it a point to tour that part of Europe. He was
honorably discharged and returned to Coldwater in 1959. Upon returning home
David was hired as an attendant at the Coldwater State Home. He primarily
worked with men and boys on the Title 4 Program. His other duties included camp
cook, outings in the countryside, helping with crafts and decorating his
building during the holidays. David loved his patients and he retired in 1983
after 24 years of employment.
In retirement, he
enjoyed feeding the birds and animals in his yard and tending to his flower
garden. He was also an avid reader and found great enjoyment in learning new
things.
He is survived by
his sister, Beverly Ann Weir of Coldwater; his niece, Pamela S. Weir and a
grand- nephew Ian Bowden of Colorado; his nephew, Timothy G. Weir of Indiana;
