Richard Paul Jansen, 73, of Coldwater passed away
Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at his home.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 am on
Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Julie
Elmore of Coldwater United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow
at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, February 25, 2019 from
5:00 – 7:00 pm and again on Tuesday, February 26 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at Dutcher
Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Richard was born December 28, 1945 to Adolph and
Sophia (Tomasco) Jansen in Detroit. He graduated from Michigan State University
with a Bachelor of Education in 1979. Richard was a hardworking man, spending
30 plus years working in the State of Michigan Department of Corrections,
retiring as the Assistant Deputy Warden of Lakeland Correctional Facility in
2010 due to health reasons. On December 18, 1971 he married Catherine Carey in
St. Charles, IL. She preceded him in death on May 2, 2015.
Richard was a man of many interests. He had a passion
for farming. Richard raised and showed draft horses for several years. He was
very involved with 4-H, especially when his children were participating.
Recently, he began bee-keeping. His true joy in life was spending time with his
children, and especially his grandchildren.
Mr. Jansen is survived by his children Jennifer (Keith
Ketola) Stolberg of Negaunee, Jonathan (Andrea Oswald) Jansen of Coldwater, and
Erin (Jereme) Jansen-Miller of Coldwater; his siblings Ron Jansen of Clinton,
John “Jack” (Bonnie) Jansen of Clinton, and Shirley Wohlfield of Warren; his grandchildren Lila
Stolberg, Lilliann, Lane, and Everlee Miller; his bonus daughter Jennifer
Palmer; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his
parents; his wife of 43 years Catherine Jansen; and his son Eric Jansen.
