COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The weather forecast is calling for more nasty weather on Sunday as this brutal winter shows no signs of letting up anytime soon.
Branch, St. Joseph, Hillsdale and Steuben counties are under a High Wind Watch from late Saturday night through Sunday evening.
Sustained west winds of 30 to 40 mph, with frequent gusts of 45 to 50 mph are expected to start late tonight and persist into the evening hours of Sunday.
Brief periods of sustained winds to 40 mph and wind gusts to 60 mph will be possible, especially during the Sunday morning hours.
Downed tree limbs and small trees could block roads and lead to power outages as well as cause minor structural damage. Driving in high profile vehicles, especially on north-south roads could become hazardous. Unsecured outdoor objects will be blown around.
Meanwhile, Calhoun and Kalamazoo counties are under a Winter Storm Watch from Sunday morning through late Sunday night.
In the counties under the Winter Storm Watch, there will also be damaging wind gusts of up to 60 mph on Sunday. Rain showers will change to snow showers Sunday afternoon and continue Sunday night. Temperatures will drop into the 20s Sunday afternoon and into the teens Sunday night. Snow accumulations in the Winter Storm Watch counties of one to three inches are possible.
Plan on difficult travel to the north of Branch County due to poor visibilities, slick roads and high winds.
