COLDATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater School Superintendent Terry Boguth told the district’s Board of Education Monday night about the steps that will have to be taken after a task force from the State of Michigan issued its series of recommendations for school safety in November 2018.
Boguth said each district has to have a physical security assessment done by October 2019 using a state approved assessment tool.
There are a total of 29 recommendations that have been made by the task force for schools to implement.
Boguth said she had a meeting with a representative of Compliance One of Kalamazoo which specializes in safety and security. They recently worked with Marshall Public Schools on their emergency operation plans, which Boguth said were very detailed. Compliance One has also met with the Branch Intermediate School District, and they are offering a discount if the two districts go in together.
Compliance One offered a quote of over $19,000 for an emergency operation plan. Grants are available for local districts to help offset the costs.
Boguth said they have been working on security plans since last summer, but there is still a lot more to do.
She is planning to bring more information to the board for possible formal action next month.
