BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Bronson’s boys and girls bowling teams both won MHSAA Division 4 championships Friday at M-66 Bowl in Battle Creek. The Viking boys won their second straight title by Beating Unionville-Sebawaing 1282-1173 in the championship match.
Brandon Hyska rolled a team-high 195 in the regular game portion of the championship match. Bronson advanced by finishing first in the morning qualifying block with a score of 3380; Hyska rolled a 300 during the qualifying block. The Vikings defeated Portland St. Patrick 1219-1100 in the match-play quarterfinals and Ishpeming Westwood 1237-1178 in the semifinals.
The Lady Vikings won their first state title by beating East Jackson 1043-935. Dakota Smith rolled a 178 in the regular game segment of the championship match. Bronson finished third in the morning qualifying block with a score of 2920, beat Brown City 1203-961 in the quarterfinal match, and defeated Vandercook Lake 1242-1099 in the semifinal.
In the Division 2 Finals at Century Bowl in Waterford, Coldwater’s boys placed second in the morning qualifying block with a score of 3473, but were beaten by Tecumseh 1320-1187 in the quarterfinal round of match play. Tecumseh would go on to lose to New Boston Huron 1403-1352 in the championship match.
The Lady Cardinals took the eighth and final spot in the morning qualifying block with a team score of 3015 and were eliminated by eventual champion Flint Kearsley in the quarterfinals 1315-1135. Kearsley won its sixth straight championship by beating Tecumseh 1352-1239.
The bowling singles finals are today. Alec Keplinger, Rilee Cooper-Lewis, and Noella Keplinger will represent Coldwater in Division 2 at Century Bowl; Brody Glei and Cassie White will represent Quincy in Division 3 at Northway Lanes in Muskegon; and Brandon Hyska and Dakota Smith will represent Bronson in Division 4 at M-66 Bowl.
