COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Board of Public Utilities crews spent nearly seven chilly hours Sunday repairing a water main break on the city’s west side.
The break on U.S. 12 near Northshore Drive was reported at about 5:00 a.m..
With temperatures in the mid 20’s, water from the leak froze on the pavement and city crews had to be called in to take care of the icy driving conditions.
The leak also led to a small frozen lake forming in the area of the Willow’s Bar and the Citgo gas station.
Water pressure had to be lowered so that crews could make repairs but no boil water advisories were issued.
Temperature changes which causes the ground to shift and break water mains during the winter time may have been a factor.
