LANSING, MI (WTVB) – 58th District State Representative Eric Leutheuser, whose district covers Branch and Hillsdale counties, says he is disappointed with Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s proposed gas tax increase.
He says in a statement released by his office that a 45 cents per gallon increase in fuel taxes would give Michigan the highest gas tax in the country on top of the nation’s highest car insurance rates.
Leutheuser said, “it would be laughable if it weren’t being proposed by the governor of our state”.
He expressed his disappointment about Whitmer’s idea to raise taxes on small businesses and he plans to vote against the proposal if it’s presented in this form to the full House.
Leutheuser points out the governor’s budget proposal is just that, a proposal which mainly serves as the beginning point in the negotiation process with the Legislature.
