ROCKORD, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s Leah Goodwin finished sixth in the vault at the MHSAA Division One girls gymnastics state finals at Rockford on Saturday. After winning a regional title last weekend in the event, Goodwin posted a score of 9.15 to earn all-state honors. Her all-around performance was just shy of the awards stand with a thirteenth place overall.
Coldwater’s Layla Schoch also competed as an individual on Saturday and finished 22nd in the final all around standings. She and Goodwin qualified in all of the events.
The competition awards were presented by the Michigan High School Coaches and Judges Association. Each team has the opportunity to honor one individual who displays the best sportsmanship. Kelani Philipp was given the award for Coldwater.
Meanwhile, Coldwater Coach Kim Nichols was honored as the Association’s Coach of the Year. Her team had its best season in almost three decades and had another successful “Stick It For A Cure” fundraising event which annually raises money for ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital’s cancer center.
