COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A report presented to the Coldwater City Council Monday night shows the number of reported crimes in the city during 2018 almost matched the number from the previous year.
The report showed that Coldwater Police handled 1,027 reported criminal complaints, up from 1,022 in 2017.
The numbers reflect criminal violations that are reported by the department.
Crimes showing an increase included aggravated assault, burglary, auto theft, assault and battery, embezzlement and malicious destruction of property.
Crimes which decreased included domestic offenses, fraudulent activity, narcotics, liquor laws, public peace and operating while intoxicated.
Non-criminal complaints went down in 2018. Officers handled a total of 7,943 non-criminal calls for service compared to 8,443 calls in 2017.
Coldwater Police handled seven percent fewer traffic accidents in 2018 compared to the previous year, and there has been a drop in accidents over the last 10 years.
In the total summation, Coldwater police officers handled 9,956 complaints in 2018, which is down six percent from 2017.
