LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Carrying on a longstanding tradition at Coldwater High School, a number of students excelled in Youth In Government activities at the State Capitol during February and March, including placing first place in the Mock Trial competition.
The Mock Trial team of Anna DeMeester, Leila Mohsen, Kelly Warner, Jadyn Richmond and Selena Hostetler took first place at both state Youth In Government conferences to be awarded State Mock Trial Team Champions.
All total, 62 students representing Coldwater High School, along with over 700 students statewide participated in the annual MYIG conferences.
Coldwater students showed their civic knowledge and leadership skills by earning over half of all the top awards including: Jillian Mckinley-Lt. Governor, Lexi Galliers-Top Senator award, Montgomery Barrow-Senior Lobbyist, Linzy Monks- Top Lobbyist, Jadazay Ledbetter-Top National Issues Forum Proposal, and Maxim Gruner-Top National Issues Forum debate delegate.
According to Coldwater High School team advisor Sherry Bean, the Youth In Government experience allows students to take theoretical knowledge from textbooks and apply it in an actual government setting.
