COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A man charged in connection with a violent incident in the 500 block of Morse Street which left a 53-year-old woman injured last December was ordered to serve between 29 months and four years in the Michigan Department of Corrections Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
49-year-old Daniel Torres entered a no contest plea to a charge of assault with a weapon. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors agreed not to authorize a second charge of assault by strangulation.
Torres was given credit for 102 days already served. A habitual offender sentencing enhancement was also dropped in exchange for the plea.
Torres was found competent to stand trial during a December 27, 2018 hearing in Branch County District Court.
