COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – As much warmer temperatures move into the Branch County area, so does the potential of severe weather Thursday.
The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Branch, Hillsdale, St. Joseph, Steuben and surrounding counties from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. today.
Forecasters say morning showers will dissipate and move off to the east, but additional showers and thunderstorms are expected to rapidly develop and overspread the region from late morning into this afternoon. The primary potential severe weather hazards today include damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph, along with the risk of isolated tornadoes.
Isolated large hail is also possible but of low confidence. The greatest risk of severe weather is this afternoon into early this evening. In addition to the severe weather potential, non-thunderstorm winds will become strong this afternoon with southerly gusts to 50 mph possible.
